Aggies Take War Hawks Down to the Buzzer in Exciting Win

Box Score Goodwell, Okla.—The McMurry War Hawks traveled to Goodwell Oklahoma to take on the Aggies for a conference game Thursday evening in the Oscar Williams Field House.

McMurry came into the game with an overall record of 10-11 and 5-7 in the Heartland Conference, while the Aggies came in 2-19 and 2-10 in the conference.

The game was fast-paced and high-scoring from the tip-off. Much like the women's game, both teams went basket for basket with the Aggies landing on top 45-41 going into the break. McMurry guard Brandon Golden had an outstanding first half with 21 points connecting on 4-8 from three point land. For the Aggies Senior Bill Lee led Aggie scorers with 11 going into halftime.

The Aggies started off quick in the second half building up a nine point lead with 18:23 remaining in the game. McMurry came back to tie it at 73 all with 6:43 remaining. Once again both teams traded buckets and McMurry was left with a shot in the final seconds to tie the game; but the War Hawks came up short and gave the Aggies an 87-85 victory at home. With the win the Aggies move to 3-19 (3-10). McMurry drops to 10-12 (5-8).

McMurry's Brandon Golden finished with a game high 30 points. Senior Bill Lee led the Aggies in scoring with 25 and also tied the game-high in rebounds with eight. Senior point guard Z. Jones had 20 points off the bench for the Aggies. Kysahn Sands and Dawayne Matthews both had a double digit scoring night with 15 and 13 points respectively.

OPSU Coach Jerry Olson was very happy with his teams' effort but stated that he was "not so happy with their concentration and focus on the defensive plan." Olson continued, "I was really pleased with the performance of Bill Lee, Dawayne Matthews, and Keysahn Sands; Z. Jones also did a great job off the bench."

The Aggies tip-off again at home Saturday against St. Edward's University; game time is set for 3 p.m.
