Five Seniors Recognized during Aggie Women’s Final Game of 2013-2014

Box Score Goodwell, Okla.—OPSU women's basketball seniors Meagan Bell, Sarah Johnson, Sharice Papaleo, Morgan Rickwartz, and Kortney Williams were recognized prior to Saturday's season finale against Oklahoma Christian University.

Oklahoma Christian came in to Goodwell with a 14-11 record and came away adding another notch to the win column. The Aggie women put up a great effort but took a 84-75 loss to end their season at 1-25 overall.

The Aggies came in ready to play going up seven points in the first four minutes and holding the lead through the 14:51 mark when OC's Sydney Hill tied things up at 10 apiece. The Lady Eagles gained momentum and took a 17-point advantage over the Aggies with less than five minutes remaining in the opening half; but the Aggies held their ground dropping the Eagle's lead to only five points at the break (40-35).

Sarah Johnson led the game in scoring with nine points after the first half along with OC's McKenzie Brown who put up nine points for her team. The Lady Eagles' Logan McKee was leading in rebounds at the break with five.

The Lady Eagles took their biggest lead of the game in the second half as they went up by 14 points (63-49) with 8:56 showing on the clock. Brittany Alavinejad and Haley Bonilla each landed long shots for the Aggies to help break the lead to six, but OC went on a ten-point run and claimed a final victory on the road.

Leading all scorers in the second half was senior Sarah Johnson who added a whopping 20 points to the board for the Aggies. Logan McKee led the Lady Eagles with nine points and also grabbed eight rebounds to close the game.

Coach Charles Terry had this to say after the game, "Our kids hung in there throughout the entire year when nothing good was happening. The five seniors were great all year; I am very proud of them and of all our players. Love them!"

Johnson finished with a game-high 29 points and contributed four assists. Brittany Alavinejad was second in scoring for the game with 17 points and Sharice Papaleo led the Aggies in rebounding with eight.

For the Lady Eagles, Logan McKee earned a double-double scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

The Aggies finish their season with one Heartland Conference victory and will look forward to the release of the conference reports later this week which will surely have several Aggie women in the ranks individually.
