Aggies Unable to Come Out on Top in Weekend Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 Claremore, Okla.—This weekend the Aggies of OPSU traveled in-state to play Heartland Conference opponent Rogers State University. The teams competed in a double-header in Friday's match-up and finished with nine innings Saturday afternoon.
 
Spencer Long took the mound as the Aggies' starting pitcher in game one. Long pitched six innings while allowing eight hits and four runs. He also tossed two strikeouts, but his efforts weren't enough as the Aggies were defeated 4-0. 
 
For Rogers State, the starting pitcher in game one was Mason Marquette.  Marquette had an impressive day on the mound for the Hillcats as he went seven innings, while giving up five hits and allowing zero runs. He also threw four strikeouts.  With the win in game one the Hillcats improved to 14-21, and the Aggies dropped to 11-26.
 
In the second game of the double-header Walker Rainwater took the mound for OPSU, and for Rogers State it was T.J. Law getting the start. Both starters went seven innings, with Rainwater giving up seven hits, four runs and collecting a good amount of strikeouts with six. Law for Rogers State gave up five hits, two runs, and tossed four strikeouts.
 
Adam Burke came in at relief for the Aggies pitching two innings with up one run and one strikeout. RSU's Travis Teague also pitched two relief innings giving up zero hits while throwing three strikeouts.
 
Robert Montoya knocked in both runs for the Aggies in game two as he went 1-1 batting with two RBI. Rogers State player Blake Gibson went 2-5 batting and had two RBI. Ryan Hendricks, Caleb Kohlmeyer, and Alex Cochran each knocked in a run for Rogers State, helping the Hillcats collect the 5-2 win in game two.
 
The Aggies and Hillcats were back at it Saturday as Zach Tingen and Jesse Baird got starts on the mound for their teams. Baird, for Rogers State went six innings, giving up eight hits, four runs and collecting two strikeouts. Tingen went 4.2 innings, giving up 10 hits and six earned runs.
 
The Aggies played this game close as well, but walked away with the 8-6 loss. Blake Gipson had a good day at the plate for the Hillcats as he went 2-4 and knocked in three runs; Logan Palmer was able to collect two RBI in game three, while Chase Knott, Caleb Kohlymeyer and Johan Ochoa each had one RBI for Rogers State.
 
Payton Osbon, Evan Offutt, Lucas Ogaz and Nicholas Zieniuk each made contributions to the run column for the Aggies knocking in one RBI apiece in game three; Trey Wooten led the Aggies with two RBI in the game.
 
With the losses over the weekend the Aggies now drop to 11-28 on the season. The Aggies continue conference play this week against number two-ranked St. Edward's University. Games were originally scheduled for Thursday and Friday, but have been moved to Friday and Saturday due to impending weather. Friday's double-header will begin at 1 p.m.
