Box Score 3 Goodwell, Okla.—The St. Edward's University Hilltoppers got the best of the OPSU Aggies in a three-game Heartland Conference match-up Friday and Saturday winning 6-2, 5-1 and 2-0.
The Hilltoppers entered the series with a 28-11 overall record, ranked second in the conference. The three wins over the Aggies moved their Heartland record to 18-6.
Spencer Long pitched a full seven innings for the Aggies in game one, allowing just six hits and two earned runs. SEU pitcher Brannon Easterling also threw a complete game earning his eighth win of the season with six hits, two earned runs and six strikeouts; Easterling is the number two-ranked pitcher in the conference.
Chris McClendon and
Nick Crosswhite brought in one RBI each for OPSU in game one with
Jordan Bernal and Peyton Osbon scoring one run apiece.
Lucas Ogaz drove a double to center field in the sixth inning but was left on base by the following three batters.
The Aggies tied things up at 1-1 in the third inning of game two but were held scoreless for the remaining innings taking a four-run loss.
Walker Rainwater got the start on the mound for OPSU and went six innings throwing three strikeouts; Rainwater took the loss with eight hits and five earned runs.
Adam Burke came out of the bullpen for three innings and did his job allowing just one hit and zero runs; Burke tossed four strikeouts.
SEU's Collin Sherrod improved his pitching record to 8-0 after throwing a complete nine innings against the Aggies in game two. Sherrod gave up seven hits and one earned run and threw a total of nine strikeouts.
McClendon drove in the lone RBI for the Aggies in game two, bringing in Peyton Osbon who reached on a double to center field.
Junior pitcher Zach Tingen pitched a strong game three for the Aggies, but took the loss with six hits and two earned runs in 7.1 innings; he sat down two Hilltoppers with strikeouts.
Josh Casillas came in at relief and threw one strikeout in 1.2 innings giving up zero runs.
Cam Hatch and Kyle Seithel each threw four innings for SEU; Seithel earned the win allowing zero hits and zero runs. Grayson Pratt closed the game out grabbing his second save of the season.
The Aggies were held to four hits in game three, each a single by
Jordan Bernal,
Nick Crosswhite,
Evan Offutt and
Nicolas Zieniuk.
McClendon led the Aggies in RBI with two followed by
Nick Crosswhite who brought in one. Crosswhite also totaled 25 putouts from first base.
The Aggies record drops to 11-31 overall with two conference wins. They will continue conference play at home this week against Newman University April 25-26 after a single-game match up with Wayland Baptist on the road April 23.
