The Aggies host their home opener Saturday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. against Fort Lewis.
Goodwell, Okla.–Football season is in full swing and the OPSU Aggies are ready to REV IT UP at Carl Wooten Field as they take the field against Fort Lewis College for their 2014 home opener this Saturday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.
The Fort Lewis Skyhawks should match up well against the Aggies, being an NCAA-Division II team that also looks for their first win of the season. The Aggies hope to bounce back after last week's loss in Alamosa, Colo. to Adams State and they certainly have the tools to get the job done.
The Aggie offense totaled 390 yards against Adams with quarterback
Caleb Holbrook completing 28 passes for 279 yards; running back
Chris McClendon averaged 4.5 yards per carry and will give the Skyhawks a
run for their money. This week Holbrook will look to sophomore receiver
Zacari Lavender who brought down five receptions for 82 yards last week in his first game for OPSU;
Deandre Perry will also be a target for Holbrook, after proving himself with six completions last week.
The bell will toll for the Skyhawks when the Darkside-D takes the field. The Aggie defense racked up 65 tackles against Adams and forced two safeties and one interception. This week FLU will contend with defensive backs
Andrew Dougherty and
Jamel Major who combined for 21 tackles last week. The D-line is hungry for more after bringing down one sack against ASU, and linebackers
Dominique Guest and
Isaia Vimoto hope to impede the Skyhawk passing game.
Coach Gas encourages fans to, "Come early, wear red and get rowdy!" Those who come early will receive a free t-shirt provided by this week's game sponsor Panhandle Printing. The t-shirts happen to be red, so all that's left to do is get ROWDY and the Mazzio's Zone is the perfect place to do just that. The Zone offers free admission to those bringing their own seating and Mazzio's will deliver free pizzas to the rowdiest fans during the first quarter.
It's a great time to be an Aggie fan and a great season lies ahead. Keep up with all things "Aggie" by visiting the official website for Aggie Athletics at
