Aggies Fall to Falcons

Box Score Odessa, Texas—The OPSU Volleyball team picked back up on their conference road tour this week and fell in their first match Thursday night against the University of Texas-Permian Basin.

The Aggies battled in the first two sets coming within reach of victory but were defeated 20-25 and 21-25 by the sixth-ranked Heartland team. Starting off strong in the third set and owning an early lead, the Aggies were overtaken in the end 15-25. The Falcons now own a 2-4 conference record with OPSU still looking for their first Heartland win.

Madigan Gonzales and Kaitlyn Carr led the team in hitting; Gonzales averaged 33 percent landing 11 kills on 21 attacks and Carr hit a 30 percent with ten kills on 20 attacks. Gonzales totaled 13 points two of which came as block assists. Abigail Reinick had a team-high of 14 assists for the Aggies and also led in digs with ten. Sharing libero duties Alison Holcomb, Dejiana Rubio and Megan Archleta combined for 13 digs in the match.

With one last stop in Lubbock the Aggies will wrap up their road trip Friday evening with a match against a 7-6 (overall) Lubbock Christian team.

Aggie fans can gear up for a PINK OUT game on Sunday, Oct. 4 as the OPSU volleyball team returns to their home court to take on Texas A&M-International. The Heartland Conference match will begin at Noon.

The action continues throughout the week as they Aggies host a tri-match on Wednesday, Oct. 7 beginning at 1 p.m. and a conference double-header on Thursday, Oct. 8 starting at 4:30 p.m. Fans unable to attend in person can keep up with the Aggies via live stats and video links available on the OPSU Aggie Athletics website (volleyball schedule page).
