OPSU Volleyball Takes Two Losses in Triangular

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Weatherford, Okla.—The Oklahoma Panhandle State University volleyball team came out empty-handed in Saturday's tri-match hosted by Southwestern Oklahoma State.

The Aggies started slow but picked up the pace taking their first match against Henderson State to four sets. The Reddies controlled the tempo in the first set, leading throughout, and took a 25-13 victory. OPSU was down early in the second set but fought to an 8-8 tie and went on pursuit nudging a one-point lead at 22-21 and held on for the win; Julia Ibarra served an ace and Kaitlyn Carr went in for a kill to claim the second set for OPSU 25-22. Sets three and four were battles to the end but fell in favor of Henderson State by scores of 25-20 and 25-21.

Madigan Gonzales and Kaitlyn Carr led the team in hitting earning 12 and ten kills respectively. Ibarra totaled 17 assists against the Reddies and landed three service aces. Libero Dejiana Rubio had 12 digs and Gonzales also led the Aggies on defense with nine block assists.

In game two the Aggies went up against a 15-8 SWOSU team that currently sits third in the Great American Conference. The Lady Bulldogs dominated every set winning in three 25-15, 25-17 and 25-10, and averaging an amazing 65 percent in hitting in the third set. SWOSU landed eight service aces and brought down twelve blocks in the match while the Aggies marked zero in each category.

Gonzales averaged 26 percent in hitting with seven kills on 19 attacks. Abigail Reinick contributed a team-high 13 assists and Rubio totaled 11 digs against the Lady Bulldogs. The Aggies averaged .156 in hitting in both matches Saturday and move to 1-24 on the season.

Moving forward the Aggies face another tri-match this week in Alva, Okla. The team will compete against Northwestern Oklahoma State and Fort Hays State on Tuesday, Oct. 27.

The Aggies look forward to returning to their home court Friday, Oct. 30 for the Third Annual Halloween Spiketacular. Aggie fans are invited to come in costume and enjoy free popcorn, door prizes, trick-or-treating and the ever-popular costume contest between the second and third sets. Cash prizes are given for the top-rated costumes by the audience. The Aggies take on St. Mary's at 7 p.m. but come early to register and take part in all the fun.
