A Testing Tri-Match for OPSU Volleyball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Goodwell, Okla.—The Aggies took two losses in Wednesday's tri-match against New Mexico Highlands and Texas A&M Kingsville.

Putting in solid work in their first match against NMHU the Aggies took the Cowgirls to five sets winning set three 25-22 and set four 25-17. The Cowgirls managed to pull through the deciding fifth set with a 15-10 victory; they took the first two sets by a score 25-16 in each game.

Madigan Gonzales and Emily Goeken led the team in hitting against NMHU with 14 and 12 kills respectively. Abigail Reinick contributed a team-high 20 assists followed by Julia Ibarra with 16. Sharing libero duties Dejiana Rubio and Alison Holcomb each finished with seven digs on the match. The Aggies were strong on the serve scoring seven aces against the Cowgirls; Rubio and Holcomb had two service aces apiece.

Highlands then took the court for a match-up with Texas A&M University Kingsville where the Javelinas won in three straight sets (26-24, 25-20 and 25-14) to go 10-8 on the season.

The Aggies were then up to take on TAMUK who earned their second win of the day by outmatching the Aggies in three, 25-10, 25-16 and 25-18.

Gonzales was once again the team-high hitter scoring six kills on the Javelinas. Reinick and Ibarra combined for 16 assists and Megan Archuleta led the team in digs with seven in her two sets at libero. Jessica Taylor served up two service aces in the match as well.

OPSU volleyball will be back on their home court Thursday for a Heartland Conference Dual Match against Newman University and the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith.

The team will host an alumni match in conjunction with Homecoming festivities this Saturday, Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. Interested parties can contact Coach Mike Stephens for more information.
