Goodwell, Okla.—It's Homecoming Week at Oklahoma Panhandle State University which means Aggie Football is back in action at Carl Wooten Field. With plenty of pre-game festivities, Aggie fans can plan to make a day of it on the OPSU campus.
A Homecoming parade around the university will start the day off Saturday, Oct. 10 at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Alumni BBQ at 11 o'clock in the Clock Tower Plaza. The gates open at 11:30 a.m. for the 1 p.m. kick-off as the Aggies take on the Pirates of Southwestern University where 2015 Homecoming Royalty will be crowned at halftime.
The Aggies own an even 2-2 record on the season and should be running on all cylinders upon coming off a bye week. They will face an improved Southwestern team who currently sits 2-3 after earning a 35-28 win at Austin College last week. "We will be playing a better team than last year," said Head Coach
Russell Gaskamp, "so we will need to execute in all three phases of the game."
He elaborated that they will continue to emphasize the importance of special teams, namely the kickoff return unit. The Aggies currently rank third nationally in Kickoff Returns averaging 33.53 yards per return with three touchdowns off returns (the most TDs from returns in NCAA Division-II).
Devyn Williams and
Zacari Lavender sit at the top of the national ranks in kickoff returns with Williams currently second averaging 36.2 yards and Lavender sitting fourth with an average return of 35.6 yards; the duo accounted for over 200 return-yards against Bacone, each scoring TDs on two lengthy returns.
Gaskamp continued, "The Homecoming game is really a showcase for the alumni to show them how our program is growing and succeeding. We look to put on a good show for everyone and give fans a great day of fun and football at Carl Wooten Field."
Aggie fans will have plenty to cheer for this weekend and are encouraged to come early, wear red, get rowdy and REV IT UP for the 2015 Homecoming celebration at OPSU!
