Patriots Push past Aggie Men

Box Score Dallas, Texas—The OPSU men's basketball team fell Monday evening in a Heartland Conference match-up with Dallas Baptist University as the Patriots earned their twelfth win of the season 92-72 over the Aggies.

Down 48-32 at halftime, the Aggies improved their shooting in the second half but were unable to pull ahead for the win. DBU out-played the Aggies at the boards taking 38 rebounds to OPSU's 21 for the game. Coach Jerry Olson responded saying, "We weren't ready to play defensively; it's been the story all year. We can't defend and we can't get a rebound which makes it hard to win."

Amari Bryant led the game in scoring putting up 33 points for the Patriots. DBU's Tim Simmons earned the game's only double-double with ten points and 12 rebounds and Shannon Lilly had the game-high in assists with eight.

For the Aggies, Antonio Manns, Jr. continues to lead his team totaling 21 points on the game. John Lazenby and Jared Straight were also top contributors finishing with 13 and 12 points respectively. Manns shared the team-high for rebounds with Marquavius Williams, each with five; Williams also led the Aggies in assists with four.

The Aggies are eager to take to their home court this week with two very special games planned. Thursday, Feb. 5 will be a Pink-Out game against Newman University in support of breast-cancer awareness. Both Aggie teams will be decked in pink as well as the Aggie Cheer team who will include a special performance at halftime of the men's game. All proceeds from pink t-shirt sales, special contests and donations will be given directly to the family of Aggie basketball player John Lazenby whose mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. The Aggie women are set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m. with the men following.

On Saturday, Feb. 7 OPSU will celebrate Winter Homecoming with coronation of Homecoming royalty taking place during halftime of the men's game. The Aggies will take on Oklahoma Christian University with the women's game starting at 1 p.m. Aggie fans are invited to come early and bid on some wonderful items in the OPSU Staff Liaison Committee's Silent Auction. Gear up and get ready for a great week of Aggie Basketball!
