Eagles Earn Two Wins over Aggies

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Goodwell, Okla.—OPSU Basketball fell to Oklahoma Christian University in Saturday's Heartland Conference match-ups; the women took a 15-point loss (81-66) and the men were defeated 104-71 by the Eagles.

The Aggie women played a close game in the first half down by four points at the break (29-25), but the Lady Eagles soared through the second half shooting 50 percent from the field. OPSU lost 21 points on turnovers and were outscored in the paint 40-26 for the game. The Aggies played a tough defensive game in the opening 20 minutes taking 23 rebounds in the first half.

Kiera Waters led the Aggies in scoring for the game with 18 points, landing two three-pointers and going 4-5 from the line. Another leading contributor was Sade Tutson who finished with 14 points. Hannah Tatum and Tatyana Bell led the team in rebounds with eight apiece. OC's McKenzie Stanford led the game in scoring with 30 points, a career high, and Kylee Hicks totaled a game-high 11 rebounds for the Lady Eagles.

OPSU Coach Charles Terry felt that his team really competed hard but just couldn't find a way to score saying, "I'm proud of our effort, but we have to handle our passing much better." The Aggie women now hold a 3-19 overall record with one conference win.

The Aggie men battled to within three points of the lead midway through the first half but player fouls and missed opportunities at the net gave the Eagles the edge to pull into a 20-point lead at the break. Although the Aggies were out-rebounded 30-19 in the closing half, they only gave up four second-chance points, but their shooting percentage dropped to 23 percent and they were unable to make a come-back. The Eagles shot 58 percent for the game and brought down 53 total rebounds; the Aggies averaged 27 percent in shooting and totaled 34 rebounds.

Antonio Manns, Jr. led the Aggies in scoring for the 17th time this season; Manns finished with 22 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal. Jared Straight added 14 points for the Aggies and Marquavius Williams led the team in rebounds with 12. Game-highs went to OC's John Moon and Eric Randall in both scoring and rebounding, each earned a double-double as well. Moon scored 32 points with 12 rebounds and Randall led the game with 15 rebounds and scored 29 points for the Eagles.

Coach Jerry Olson plainly stated, "They played really great today and we didn't." The Aggie men drop to 3-19 overall with one win in the Heartland Conference.

Both Aggie teams are on the road this week taking on Rogers State in Claremore, Okla. Thursday, Feb. 12 and the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday in Fort Smith. Get ready for another PINK OUT when the Aggies return home on Thursday, Feb. 19 for two games against the University of Texas-Permian Basin; the women tip-off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men.
