Wayland Baptist Gets the Best of the Aggies

Box Score Goodwell, Okla.—The OPSU Baseball team hosted the Pioneers of Wayland Baptist University on Tuesday afternoon and a great crowd showed up to support their Aggies.

For OPSU Patrick Gonzales was the starter, he also went three innings, allowing three hits and zero earned runs.

Neither team got on the board until the bottom of the second inning when Samuel Moreno led off the inning with a double and was drove in on a single by Bo Ybarra to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning Lucas Ogaz drove in the second run for the Aggies on a double that scored Ybarra.

The next four innings remained scoreless until the top half of the sixth inning when the Pioneers drove in a run on an Ethan Purcell ground-out RBI to second base that scored Josh Alexander.

The Aggies offensively were unable to piece anything together for the rest of the game. Meanwhile, Wayland Baptist produced eight more runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Three runs scored in the seventh and the Pioneer bats exploded for five runs in the eighth. With zero runs coming across in the ninth, the final score remained at 9-2 in favor of the visiting team.

There were many pitching changes for both teams throughout the game. For Wayland Kyle Parriera picked up his first win of the season, while Brayden Schuler took the loss for OPSU. Brett Nasello, Jonny Mireles, Dallas Guerrero, Logan Litton, Felipe Beltran, and Adrian Lopez also made appearances on the mound for the Aggies. Craig Cook, Logan Evans, Michael Cowan each had pitching time for the Pioneers.
