Box Score 3 Oklahoma City—The Aggies suffered three losses in a weekend series against Heartland Conference opponent Oklahoma Christian University.
Friday's doubleheader started off with a 7-1 victory for the Eagles in the seven-inning game one. The Aggies found themselves down by four runs after three innings when Luca Ogaz led off the fourth with a solo homer to right field to put the Aggies on the board. OC would bring in two final runs in the fifth and held the Aggies scoreless the remainder of the game to clinch the win.
Walker Rainwater pitched a full six innings in game one and took the loss for OPSU with eleven hits for five earned runs; he threw three strikeouts, five fly-outs and nine ground-outs for the game. OC's Dillon Endecott earned his fourth win of the season in five innings of work.
The Aggies put up a fight in game two taking a 6-3 lead in the top of the seventh. Scoreless through the first five innings,
Collin Smith put up one run for OPSU with a RBI single in the sixth and followed up with a two-run single in the seventh after
Nick Crosswhite, Jake Milburn and
Payton Osbon each drove in one run for the Aggies.
The Eagles answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull within one run of the Aggies. OPSU had two hits in the eighth and one in the ninth but left runners on base giving OC an opportunity at the end of the game. The eagles took advantage scoring a three-run homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth to win the game by a score of 8-6.
The Aggies went through four pitching changes in game two with
B.J. Henry taking the loss in the final two innings. Sam Beattie got the start for OPSU and went 4.2 innings tossing nine strikeouts and allowing four hits for three runs.
Patrick Gonzales and
Jonny Mireles each saw time on the mound as well. OC's closer Dylon Sturges earned his first win of the season in 1.2 innings.
Zack Tingen got the start for OPSU on Saturday and was put to the test as the Eagles brought in four runs in the first inning to take an early lead. The Aggie bats struggled against OC's opening pitcher Hunter Raley who only allowed two hits in five innings. OC went on a tear in the fourth inning scoring six runs on Tingen before he was relieved by
Scott Cutright.
Cutright kept things under control not allowing a hit on his watch, but the Eagles would add another run in the sixth as
Brett Nasello took the mound. With zero runs coming through for the Aggies, OC ended the game in seven innings with an 11-0 shutout victory. Tingen took the loss for OPSU and Raley earned his fourth win for OC.
Lucas Ogaz and
Collin Smith were the leading hitters for OPSU; Ogaz went four of ten with a home run and a double for a .800 slugging percentage and Smith batted .500 and led the team in RBI with three. The Aggies fall to 3-34 overall with two wins in the Heartland Conference. OPSU Baseball will remain on the road this week taking on Prairie View A&M in Prairie View, Texas on Wednesday. They will resume conference play this weekend with a three-game series in Austin against St. Edward's April 17-18.
