Aggies Fall to LCU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 Goodwell, Okla.—The Aggie baseball team took on Lubbock Christian in a three game series, playing a double header Thursday and one game on Friday.
 
In game one the Aggies were very competitive, but were not able to pull out with the win losing by a score of 5-7. Walker Rainwater was the starting pitcher in game one for the Aggies, and he had a very impressive day on the mound going a strong six innings, giving up five hits and allowing just two runs. B.J. Henry and Brett Nasello both came in on relief duty for less than an inning to close out the game for OPSU. For Lubbock Christian, pitcher Brig Gerlich had a very good day going for a strong seven innings giving up eight hits and five runs.  
 
Jason Cox, Jordan Sprouse, and Chris McClendon each collected one RBI for the Aggies at the plate. Sprouse brought in his RBI in the second inning on a fly-out to right field that scored Bo Ybarra. In the fifth inning the Aggie bats were working very well bringing across three runs on an RBI single by Chris McClendon and by way of two throwing errors by Lubbock Christian. Going into the seventh inning the Aggies were up by a score of 5-2, but the Chaps rallied for five runs in the seventh and would not allow any runs in the bottom of the inning giving Lubbock Christian the win by a score of 7-5.
 
The teams turned right back around after game one to start game two of the double-header. On the mound for OPSU was Sam Beattie who went 5.2 innings and gave up seven runs on just six hits. Adrian Lopez and Riley Crews both had time pitching for the Aggies on relief duty. For Lubbock Christian Guillaume Blanchette got the start and went a good seven innings giving up just one run on seven hits. Matthew Lusk and Elfego Torres also had time on the mound and both pitched one inning.
 
The Aggie bats were unable to put up a run until the bottom of the seventh inning on a Lucas Ogaz RBI double that scored Nick Crosswhite from first base. For Lubbock Christian the bats were working very well as the Chaps jumped out to a 9-0 lead after six innings.  The game ended in a 9-1 victory for LCU.
 
The third game of the series was played on Friday afternoon where LCU came out on top by a score of 12-3. Dalton Silva got the nod to start and went five innings for the Chaps while giving up just one run on seven hits. For OPSU Zack Tingen was the starter; he had four innings of work and gave up six runs on nine hits. Patrick Gonzales and Scott Cutright both got some time on the mound in relief duty. The Aggie bats totaled ten hits for three runs on two RBI by Jason Cox and one RBI by Lucas Ogaz.
 
With the losses the Aggies' records drop to 3-31. OPSU Baseball will continue Heartland Conference play on the road this week as they take on Oklahoma Christian University April 10-11 in Oklahoma City.
