Box Score Goodwell, Okla.—A game that had a very promising start for the OPSU women's basketball team took a turn for the worse on Thursday evening in a home-court matchup against the Lady Eagles of Oklahoma Christian University.
After leading the game 21-18 in the first period, the Aggies were outscored 62-22 over the second and third quarters. The Aggies charged back with a strong fourth quarter but in a tale of too-little, too- late eventually fell by the score of 101-81.
Not to be overlooked in the loss was the effort of
Charron Johnson. In maybe her strongest performance of the year the senior scored 21 points and hauled in 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. The only other Aggie in double digit points was
Tatyana Bell with 11.
Hannah Whitaker also contributed with seven rebounds.
The Eagles had four players score in double figures led by Addy Clift's 19 points. OCU also had a +11 margin on the glass, taking in 52 rebounds compared to OPSU's 41. Ultimately the biggest difference in the game was the Lady Aggies' inability to get stops on the defensive side of the court in the middle stretch of the game; couple that with the Aggies' only scoring seven total points in the second quarter and the game got out of hand going into the fourth frame.
Head Coach
Charles Terry commented on the game, "We were really struggling to score and had numerous defensive breakdowns; but tomorrow is another day another opportunity for us to get it back."
The Lady Aggies look to bounce back this Saturday in the Oscar Williams Field House versus Heartland Conference foe Newman University. Tip-off will be at 1 p.m. Come enjoy a hot bag of popcorn and cheer for your Aggies.
