Aggies Eager for a Re-Match on Home Turf

Goodwell, Okla.—There's an LSC showdown set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at No Man's Land Stadium as the Aggies take on the Texans of Tarleton State in a familiar rivalry that was formed last season.

After taking two losses (84-47 and 48-47) in Stephenville last year (the latter of which left a bad taste in the mouths of Panhandle players and coaches alike), the Aggies will look for a rough and rowdy crowd to help them break the streak and add another Lone Star Conference victory to the record books. The Texans sit 4-4 on the season and hold a healthy 4-2 record within the LSC, earning wins against Angelo State, UTPB, Western New Mexico and Eastern New Mexico.

The Aggies gained a good dose of confidence after their big win against Texas-Permian Basin last week and will need to keep that momentum rolling against a Tarleton team that is averaging over 28 points per game. Prior to last week's record-breaking offensive performance by quarterback Shane Truelove, the Aggies were averaging a little over 17 points per game. While they have steadily improved the run game as the season has progressed, the Aggies will need to continue the air assault as well and be firing on all cylinders defensively against a strong Texan offense. Tarleton's defense could pose a threat as they have averaged 3.5 sacks per game this year and currently lead the conference in interceptions with 12 on the season.

The tailgate section will open at 10:30 a.m. with plenty of fun in store for Aggies of all ages. While the tailgating is taking place outside, east of the stadium, the Little Aggies Cheer Camp will be in full swing inside the Noble Activity Center; the little cheerleaders will perform a cheer and dance routine on Carl Wooten Field 30 minutes prior to kickoff, which is set for 1 p.m. Halftime will also see a special presentation, as the Aggie Band will team up with several high school bands from the Panhandle area to perform a spooky Halloween musical show.

Saturday's game is sponsored by Village Tours and judging from the weather reports it looks to be another warm and sunny day at No Man's Land. Fans are reminded to prepare for the hot weather; umbrellas are allowed inside the stadium and the concession stand will have plenty of cold water to help with the heat. Registration is still open for the cheer camp and interested parties can contact Kelcie Huffman at 719-353-2685. The camp will run from 9 a.m. thru Noon.

Panhandle Football's Head Coach Russell Gaskamp is looking forward to this week's contest and sees it as a very good opportunity for his men to make a statement with their first LSC win on home turf. Gaskamp is calling for all Aggie fans to come out early, get loud and really bring the spirit this week to help create a rowdy and intimidating atmosphere for, what is sure to be, an exciting 60 minutes of gridiron action. WEAR RED, GET ROWDY & REV IT UP!
