Panhandle State Football travels to their final road destination of the season for a showdown in Portales, N.M. on Saturday at 3 p.m. MST.
Goodwell, Okla.—Pack on the extra clothing, and face paint, Aggie fans! November has arrived, and the Oklahoma Panhandle State football team has their eyes on a victory against a physical Eastern New Mexico squad. The Aggies will travel to Portales, N.M. this Saturday, Nov. 5 at 3 p.m. (MST) to take on the Greyhounds.
Both the (5-4) Greyhounds and the (2-7) Aggies are planning to rebound from losses last week, and have, no doubt, been tending to the drawing board for this week's matchup. It will be the Greyhounds' last home game of the season, which should bring out their best effort to use against the visiting Aggies. Knowing the Greyhounds have out-rushed their opponents by more than 2,000 yards this season offensively, Panhandle's Head Coach
Russell Gaskamp is more than ready for what to expect this week. "Anytime you play a unique team like ENMU (triple option offense, heavy blitzing defense, multiple defense) it really simplifies your game plans, which is not necessarily a bad thing this time of year."
The Greyhounds have accumulated a total of 30 rushing touchdowns and average 322.7 yards rushing per game. Coach Gas emphasized the importance of the line of scrimmage and how his team must be more flexible. "They lead the league in rushing and rushing defense, so it starts with the line of scrimmage. We can't become one-dimensional on offense during the game; that plays into their hands." The Aggies haven't shown promising results with the running game this season, only finding pay dirt nine times. The passing attack of quarterback
Shane Truelove and the dangerous receiving core will need help from a running game that is still trying to find more green grass. Gaskamp also pointed out that the game will consist of more than offense and defense. "You have to be sound on all special teams to win on the road and play with great effort every rep."
The Aggies have only two games remaining on the season and will be hosting their last home game next week against the Texas A&M Kingsville Javelinas; Saturday, Nov. 12 will also be Senior Day and the Annual Chili Cook-off. Fans are always encouraged to come out and support their team. WEAR RED! GET ROWDY! REV IT UP!
