Two Aggies Earn All-American Honors

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Goodwell, Okla.—Recognized at the end of January for being named to the 2015 Don Hansen NCAA Division-II All-Super Region Four Team, two of OPSU Football's top performers of the season were named to the 2015 All-America Team by the same committee.

Senior running back Chris McClendon and junior return specialist Zacari Lavender are the first Aggies to earn spots on an All-American football team since 2007 (Matt Warner, Honorable Mention All-American). McClendon received one of four running back slots on this year's Third Team Offense and Lavender is listed as an Honorable Mention player with three other athletes named for the position of return specialist.

McClendon finished his senior season as the Aggies' leading rusher and ranked 4th in the Nation for rush yards per carry; he averaged a career-high of 7.33 yards per carry in 2015 to total 1,254 yards and 15 rushing touchdowns on the season. Lavender was hailed as the 2015-16 NCAA Division-II statistical champion for Kickoff Return Average, and set a new NCAA D-II single-season record for kickoff return averaging 42.3 yards per return this past season; he totaled 592 yards on 14 returns for three touchdowns.

A total of 187 players, representing 100 of the 170 football-playing schools in Division-II earned Don Hansen All-American accolades for the 2015 season. McClendon and Lavender add their names and Oklahoma Panhandle State University to this very distinguished list. As OPSU Football enters the Lone Star Conference full-time this year, the Aggies are proud to have these two outstanding young athletes receive recognition alongside 14 LSC players from seven different schools. What a great way to start a new era of Aggie success!
