Hard Work Ahead for the Aggies at No. 11 MSU

Goodwell, Okla.—The miles continue add up as the Panhandle State football team prepares for another weekend on the road. This Saturday, Sept. 24, the Aggies will meet with a tough LSC opponent in Wichita Falls, Texas for a 7 p.m. kick off against Midwestern State.

The Mustangs are currently ranked No. 11 in the nation among Division II teams, and sit undefeated with a 2-0 record and one Lone Star Conference win under their belts after a come-back victory in week two (32-30) over a talented Texas A&M-Kingsville program. MSU fought their way out of a 15-3 halftime deficit scoring 26 points in the third quarter alone. The Aggies have struggled after halftime thus far, with only seven third-quarter points over their first three games.

Coming off a disappointing performance at Western New Mexico (44-21) last week, the Aggies will need to come in confident and ready to play as they face two very strong fronts in Midwestern's offensive and defensive lines. Head Coach Russell Gaskamp said that the key to this week's game will be in the Aggies' ability to match the physicality of their opponent in the trenches, "They are big, strong and physical and are very experienced at the line on both sides of the ball."

Gaskamp holds the Mustangs in high regard stating, "This is a program whose success we aspire to emulate; they are consistently good." Midwestern currently ranks first in the LSC for winning percentage, averaging more than seven wins a season since 2000.

The Aggies hold a 1-2 record and look forward to returning to Goodwell for their home-opener on Saturday, Oct. 1. Fans can look forward to fully-loaded day of fun and football as a new tailgate section will open at 10:30 a.m. where everyone is welcome to come and enjoy lots of pre-game festivities prior to the 1 p.m. kickoff against Texas A&M-Commerce. Reserved tailgate space is still available; interested parties may contact Coach Gaskamp at 580-349-1332 or rgaskamp@opsu.edu.

This week's matchup can be followed via live stats and video streaming, as well as audio coverage. Links for all can be found on the football schedule page of the Aggie Athletics website at opsuaggies.com.
