Box Score Dallas, Texas—The Panhandle State men's basketball team took a 17-point loss to Dallas Baptist on Thursday evening, falling to the Patriots by a score of 110-93.
The Aggies held a one-point advantage at halftime (50-49), shooting strong from the field with a 58 percent average at the break.
Riyadh Asad had accounted for 22 of the Aggies' first half points and led the team in rebounds with three defensive boards.
Panhandle pulled ahead by five (54-49) early in the second period, but DBU got on a hot streak and went on to outscore the Aggies 18-7 over the course of a three-minute span. By the 11:24 mark the Patriots jumped ahead by 14 points (76-62) and worked up a 20-point lead with under five minutes left in the game.
Jake Regier closed out the final minutes with two successful three-pointers and
Bronson Burns hit the final free throw of the game for the Aggies.
In one of their best shooting performances in recent history, the Aggies finished averaging 61.8 percent from the field and 50 percent beyond the arc, landing 11-22 three-point shots. Asad held the game-high in scoring with 28 points for Panhandle. Freshman
Jaedon Whitfield led at the boards with eight rebounds to lead the game. Myles Johnson led the Patriots in scoring with 22 points, scoring 18 on six shots from beyond the arc.
With the loss the Aggies fall to a 5-19 record on the season and sit 0-15 in conference play; DBU improved to 16-9 and sit tied for third in the Heartland ranks with a 10-5 league record. The Aggie men will meet up with the women's team in Lubbock on Saturday for a conference doubleheader with Lubbock Christian.
