Box Score Goodwell, Okla.—A single game on Tuesday brought plenty of action to Aggie Field as the Panhandle State baseball team took a one-run loss to a rival opponent within the state. Northwestern Oklahoma State edged a 7-6 victory over the Aggies in a nine-inning matchup that saw a total of 11 pitchers take the mound.
The Aggies started off with right-handed junior,
Dallas Guerrero who threw for 3.1 innings against the Rangers. Guerrero gave up a one-run double in the first inning and three runs in the fourth;
Michael Mendoza replaced Guerrero with one out and lasted through the fifth.
Tying things up at 1-1 in the bottom of the third, centerfielder
Derek Stallworth hit an RBI single to score
Dehryen Noriega who was in as a pinch runner for
Armando Mendez; Mendez reached base with a double to right field. Trailing 4-1 going into the bottom half of the fourth inning, Robert Rodrigues and
Juan Rubayo each scored one run for the Aggies, both on passed balls. In the bottom of the fifth Rubayo walked on loaded bases to bring in the tying run for Panhandle (4-4). Hit by a pitch early in the inning,
Quinn O'Neill then scored on a sacrifice hit by
Tiler Fletcher to pull the Aggies ahead 5-4 going into the sixth.
Panhandle fell behind at the seven-inning stretch after their fourth pitcher of the day
Jonny Mireles allowed a leadoff triple, which led to three runs for the Mustangs. The Aggies managed one final run in the seventh inning when O'Neill hit a bunt single to get on base; he then stole second and came through on an RBI single from designated hitter,
B.J. Henry.
Pitchers
Corey Ley and
Hunter Hand finished out the game for the Aggies, with freshman
Brandon Judd also making an appearance in the game. Midwestern's second pitcher Collin Fouts claimed the win over a two-inning stretch, which started in the fifth. The Mustang's closer David Sanchez was credited with the save, his second on the season. Guerrero took the loss for Panhandle State and now holds a 1-2 record.
