Aggie Baseball Swept in Season Finale at St. Edwards

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 Austin, Texas—The Aggies closed out their season on the road with a Heartland Conference series at St. Edward's University May 5-6. The Hilltoppers took charge with a three-game sweep to clinch a seed in the Heartland Baseball Championships as reigning four-time tournament champions.

Panhandle State suffered three shutout losses beginning with a 9-0 defeat in game one on Friday. Starting pitcher Michael Mendoza took the loss allowing three earned runs before the first out came in the first inning. Jeremy Norris relieved Mendoza for three full innings followed Jonny Mireles (1.0) and Jerald Gaskin (2.0).

In game two, Josh Casillas took the loss for Panhandle pitching 5.2 innings with ten hits and seven runs; Tristan Hubler finished out the final 2.1 innings and held the Toppers to just two hits and one run on his watch. SEU claimed an 8-0 victory in the nine-inning matchup.

Senior Samuel Beattie took to the mound for the final time as an Aggie in game three on Saturday. The lefty delivered nine strikeouts over 6.0 innings of work to finish as the Heartland Conference leader for strikeouts with 91 on the season. St. Edwards' hitters took Beattie for five hits and five runs (three earned) and claimed two more runs as senior Logan Litton came in in the seventh. Felipe Beltran, also a senior, kept the ninth inning quiet as the Hilltoppers ended with a 7-0 win.

The Aggies totaled 14 hits on the series led by senior and starting catcher, B.J. Henry. Henry went four of 11 at the plate and had the team's only hit for extra bases with a double in game two. Senior Robert Rodriguez notched a hit in each game with three singles in the series.

Aggie baseball finished out at 10-40 on the season with a 3-21 record within the conference, their best showing since Head Coach Jason Miner took over in 2015.
