SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. –The Oklahoma Panhandle State University soccer teams both suffered Sooner Athletic Conference losses at John Brown University. The Aggie men took a 5-0 setback and the OPSU ladies fell, 12-0.
The Panhandle State men's soccer team stayed close to John Brown University- which received votes in the latest NAIA national poll - but a second half barrage led to a 5-0 loss. The Aggies fell to 7-4-1 and 3-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, while the Golden Eagles remained unbeaten in the SAC at 4-0 and are 10-2 overall.
It is the first time in its brief history that the Panhandle men's side has lost consecutive matches. OPSU lost to Southwestern Christian last Saturday to snap its four-match win streak.
The Panhandle State offense never seemed to get on track versus JBU. The Aggies managed just one shot attempt and that came in the second half by
Tayze Ellington. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles launched shots at Panhandle goalie
Cristhofer Monje.
Monje made 16 saves on the afternoon, a personal season best total. He was charged with all five goals allowed.
In the women's nightcap game, JBU - ranked No. 8 in the latest NAIA poll - dominated a depleted Aggie lineup, tallying six goals in each half. The Aggies fell to 2-8 overall and 0-6 in the SAC.
Panhandle State will next host Bacone College on Sunday (Oct. 20) in a non-conference doubleheader in Goodwell. The women's game begins at 1 p.m., followed by the men at 3 p.m.
