PLAINVIEW, Texas - A slow start doomed the Oklahoma Panhandle State University football team in the its final road game of the season. The Aggies (2-6, 2-4 SAC) lost a Sooner Athletic Conference bout at Wayland Baptist University, 35-14, at Sherwood Bulldog Stadium.
Panhandle State found itself down by 14 points in the first quarter, trailing by a 28-0 margin at the half.
The Aggies finally lit up their side of the scoreboard midway through the third period.

Seth Barbarino on a 63-yard catch-and-run on the first play of the drive, making it 28-7 at the 5:11 mark of the quarter.
After the Pioneers added another score in the third, the Aggies again found the endzone late in the fourth quarter. This time it was Panhandle State executing a "UPS Play," as
Tony Brown connected with
Jaishone Brown. The 31-yard aerial touchdown and extra point made it the 35-14 final score.
Jaishone Brown had a game-high five receptions, good for 82 receiving yards. Chjris Daley,
Jonah Martinez and
Cooper Savage each had two catches.
Tony Brown completed 10-of-39 passes for 100 yards, while also leading all rushers with 75 yards on 19 attempts. Cumby was 3-for-6 for 88 yards. The Aggie quarterbacks were sacked eight times on the afternoon.
Defensively, returning 2018 all-American linebacker
Diamante Pounds continued to make his case for a repeat honor this season. Pounds had a game-leading 16 tackles, 10 of which were solo. Included in that total was one sack.
It was Pounds' third game of the season with double-figure tackle totals and a personal season best, as well. Pounds has 77 tackles this season and 3.5 sacks.
Anthony Taylor and
Arrington Thomas each contributed eight tackles against WBU.
Malik Brown,
Tony Davis and
Jasper Smiley each made five stops, apiece. Smiley also had 2.5 sacks for 20 yards in losses.
Thomas had his first collegiate interception in the second quarter that thwarted a Pioneer scoring drive deep in Aggie territory.
Panhandle State will return home to Anchor D Stadium next Saturday (Nov. 9/2 p.m.) versus SAGU. It will also be First Responders Appreciation Day, with the "Guns & Hoses" competition at 12:30 p.m. The Goodwell Police are the two-time defending champion in the Guns & Hoses event. All First Responders are admitted free with identification.
