Goodwell, Okla.

Panhandle Baseball traveled to Cleburne, Texas this weekend for the Alpine Fresh 4HIM Classic and took home one win against rosters of Division I and II teams.
The Aggies were ultimately taken down in their first game on Feb. 7 by the University of Texas-Permian Basin after starting the game with a 6-0 lead by the top of the second. The bats got hot early, and
JJ Vaught,
Payton Rhodes,
Jared Mayeda,
Gerson Padilla,
Jaylon Burnett and
Claytin Beaver all plated runs for the Aggies, but the Falcons clawed back in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to chip away at the lead and make it a one-run game, 6-5. The Aggies held strong until the bottom of the sixth when UTBP found their opportunity and plated six runs in the inning and tacked on another in the seventh, surging ahead of the Aggies to take the win, 7-11.
Feb. 8 saw a split for the Aggies as they took the victory over East Central Oklahoma University before falling to Colorado Christian in the night game. Panhandle started off strong against ECU, plating four runs in the bottom of the first off RBI singles from Mayeda and
Chris Galvan and a 2-RBI homer from
Luis Rodriguez. Rodriguez stepped up again and singled in the second to score Vaught, and two errors by ECU in later innings gave the Aggies two more runs, taking the score 7-0 by the end of the seventh.
Luis Dermas would come across the plate in the eighth, and ECU would have some late points with two runs in the top of the inning and one in the top of the ninth, but they would be unable to fill the deficit and the Aggies took the win, 8-3.
The team suffered a hard loss against Colorado Christian University, as the Courgars dropped the Aggies 11-1 in seven innings under the lights. Vaught would score the Aggies' single run in the top of the seventh, but it would not be enough to carry the game forward leaving the Aggies with the loss at the end of the late evening.
The last game of the Classic had the Aggies starting off strong against Newman University, sending two across the plate in the first, but NU answered back with two runs of their own in the second. NU came back to score five runs through the fourth and sixth innings. Ruiz came across the plate in the top of the seventh off a sac fly from Mayeda, but Newman plated another five runs in the bottom of the inning and another in the bottom of the eighth before closing out the game, 3-13.
First baseman
Jared Mayeda received recognition as he was named to the 4HIM Classic All-Tournament Team.
The Aggies are now 4-5 on the season and will take to San Antonio next week to face Our Lady of the Lake in a four-game series over Feb. 15-16. The team then returns home to Aggie Field on Feb. 22-23 for a four-game series against Peru State College.
