Box Score 2 Goodwell, Okla.— The Aggies fell in both hard-fought contests to Wayland Baptist on Thursday in Anchor D Arena. The women were taken down by the Flying Queens 64-87 and the men lost their battle to the Pioneers, 87-97.
The team's leading scorer,
Addison Munsch, would hit 4-10 field goals in the first half and
Taylor Acosta sank two, but WBU hit heavy at the boards, maintaining a 55.9% average on field goals to the Aggies' 30.3% and the Aggies would enter halftime in a twenty-point deficit to the Flying Queens. Shambri Kelso and
Naomi Rodriguez connected on free throws to bring in 4 points each, and
Monti Regier sank a triple from far left, but the gap was too much for the Aggies' to close, handing the No. 7 Flying Queens the win, 64-87.
Addison Munsch remained relentless through four, scoring a team-high 23 points with 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
Taylor Acosta was close behind, bringing in 17 at the boards with 3 rebounds.
Monti Regier and
Nadia Hayes both defended on the court, securing 5 and 6 rebounds, respectively.
The Aggie men hit the court running against the No. 10 Pioneers, with
Breiman Alexander serving a layup on a fast break off the tip off. Alan Hodge, Jr. hauled in 16 points for a first-half high, hitting 3 triples and sinking 6-9 field goals. The two conference foes went into halftime in a close contest with JBU up 48-42.
Khallid Edwards, despite being held to just 2 points off free throws in the first half, came out hot after halftime, securing 17 points including 5 triples. However, the Aggies could not gain on the JBU lead through the second, and by the 8-minute mark the Pioneers had accrued a fourteen-point advantage. The Aggies continued to fight the clock, forcing fouls on the Pioneers, but they would not be able to regain the lead, giving the win to the No. 10 team, 87-97.
The Lady Aggies now sit .500 at 12-12 on the season and 8-10 in conference. The Aggie men are now 14-10 overall and 9-9 in conference play. Both teams will take on Oklahoma City in a double-SAC matchup on Thursday, Feb 14 in Anchor D Arena. The Aggies face the Stars in this year's Pink Out game to help raise breast cancer awareness. The Lady Aggies will be holding a silent auction in the lobby of Anchor D Arena to auction off their pink jerseys, while this year's Miss Panhandle, Hannah Johnson, will also be auctioning off items to donate proceeds to the Cancer Research Foundation.
Following Thursday's contest, the Aggies will face Southwestern Christian University on Feb. 16 for Senior Day to celebrate all the graduating athletes of the men's and women's basketball teams. The women will take the court at 2 p.m. followed by the men's game at 4 p.m., with senior recognition taking place between games.
