Box Score 2 Chickasha, Okla. – For the second consecutive game day, the Oklahoma Panhandle State University softball team took on one of NAIA's top teams, this time traveling to No. 1-ranked University of Science and Arts Oklahoma (USAO). The Aggies (15-13, 6-10 SAC) lost the first game by an 8-0 count and fell in the second, 1-0.
On Monday, the Aggies dropped a twinbill to NAIA No. 2-ranked Oklahoma City University.
In game one, it was all Drovers as the defending NAIA national champions no-hit OPSU. USAO's Emily Cerny registered 12 strikeouts. Panhandle State worked Cerny for five walks.
Brittany Thomas took the loss for OPSU. Just five of the eight runs allowed by Thomas were earned. She struck out two and walked four.
In game two, the Aggies bounced back versus the nation's top team and game the Drovers all they could handle. The 1-0 win over OPSU is the closest game the Drovers (26-0, 16-0 SAC) have had in 2019.
In the top of the second,
Brissa Rivera got the Aggies first hit of the day with a single up the middle.
But the Aggies' best chance came in the fourth. With one out,
Kayli Grove slapped a double and Rivera followed with a walk. Then with two down,
Lindsey Harris also induced a walk to load the bases. Chrislyn Dover ripped a sharp line out to first base to end the threat.
OPSU pitcher
Kaylor Battiest (5-6) went the complete game. Battiest scattered five hits, struck out five Drovers and walked one.
Panhandle State continues its road trip with a four-game series at Mid-America Christian University on Friday and Saturday.
