Goodwell, Okla. – Oklahoma Panhandle State University softball will look to resume its season this weekend in a non-conference doubleheader versus Bethany College on Saturday (March 9). The twinbill is scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch at Aggie Softball Field.
Live statistics for both games can be found via links at: opsuaggies.com.
GAME NOTES:
WHEN LAST THEY MET: Panhandle State and Bethany last locked horns in softball during the 2016 season (on Feb. 21) at the North Texas Softball Bash tournament. The Aggies scored a 13-5 win that day.
*SCOUTING THE SWEDES: Bethany College is a member of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. BC enters the games versus OPSU with a record of 5-7 overall. Like OPSU, the Swedes were scheduled to play in the McPherson Tournament this weekend, which was canceled. Bethany has lost three in a row, but had a four-game win skein prior to that.
*EAGER TO RESTART: Panhandle State softball has not been on the field for a game since its home doubleheader on February 21 versus Southwestern Christian. The Aggies have had 15 of their last 17 games wiped away by weather. In all, 19 games on the 2019 Panhandle State schedule have been affected due to weather, thus far.
*WEATHER BEATEN: The Aggies' 15-day stretch without a game is the longest weather interruption experienced by an OPSU softball team since the 2015 squad had a 13-day meteorological hiatus. Ironically, just like in 2019, the last game played before the weather set in was on Feb. 21.
*CENTURY MARK FOR MEGHAN: OPSU Head Coach
Meghan Mulcahy recorded her 100th career coaching victory in the first game of that Feb. 21 date versus Southwestern Christian (won by the Aggies, 2-1, in eight innings).
*QUICK START: The Aggies 4-0 start to 2019 matched the best beginning to a season in Coach Mulcahy's six years at the OPSU helm. The team also accomplished that feat in 2017.
*.400 CLUB: Jena Konieczka (.438) and
Karah Ortiz (.421) lead the Aggies in batting average. Konieczka leads Panhandle in doubles with four, while Ortiz tops the team in triples with three.
*LONG BALL: Abby Gregory has slammed three home runs, thus far, in 2019. She goes yard an average of every 7.7 at-bats.
*TRIPLES THREAT: The Aggies, as a team, have ran their way to nine triples.
*"K" LEADER: Kaylor Battiest has 29 strikeouts to 19 walks, a ratio of 2-to-1.5 from the circle. Battiest also has OPSU's lone save of the season to her credit.
