OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.— The Aggies fell to the No. 9 Oklahoma City University Stars on Friday evening at Jim Wade Stadium in Oklahoma City.
The Aggies got into a hole early on as the Stars put up five runs in the bottom of the first against
Yesiel Valdez on the mound. Panhandle continued to battle back against OCU's top starter Bryce Milligan, who held a 9-1 record on the season at the start of the game. DH
Kasey Leatherwood slammed a home run to right field to put the Aggies on the board in the third, and catcher Louis Rodriguez drew a bases-loaded walk to earn the team's second run of the game in the top of the fourth.
A solo homerun in the bottom of the frame continued to put runs up for OCU, and four batters later the Stars' Williams slung a 3RBI homerun over the right field fence to further the lead, 9-2.
Jeremy Norris entered in relief for Valdez in the fifth, but continued to struggle against No. 10 home-run-hitters per game in the nation and allowed another two Star's round trips in the fifth and sixth innings to tally the score 12-2 before
Jorge Acevedo would exit the bullpen for the Aggies. Panhandle would not be able to close the gap, taking the loss on game one of the weekend series.
Outfielder and Aggie leadoff hitter
Payton Rhodes was able to work the Stars' pitching staff, going 1-2 with a double and two walks to his name, and Leatherwood left the day with a home run.
Games two and three will continue at Jim Wade Stadium tomorrow, with the first pitch of the double header at noon. Links for live stats and streaming of both games will be available on opsuaggies.com.
