OPSU men defeated by #10 John Brown

GOODWELL, Okla. – A strong first half by the Oklahoma Panhandle State University men's basketball team versus the NAIA's No. 10-ranked team – John Brown University – was not enough, as the Aggies suffered a 94-68 Sooner Athletic Conference setback at Anchor D Arena.

For the first eight minutes of the opening half, neither OPSU nor the Golden Eagles were able to create much separation. Panhandle had its largest lead of the game during that span, a four-point (7-3) cushion at 17:33 minutes left.

The first half finished with four ties and seven lead changes. JBU held the upper hand at the intermission, 43-38. In the second half, the nationally-ranked Golden Eagles advantage in both height and experience took over. OPSU was out-scored, 51-30, in the second half.

JBU shot a red-hot 54 percent (32-59) from the field, bolstered by its inside game. The Aggies had a hard time thwarting JBU's long-range shooting, resulting in 13 (of 42) baskets from beyond the arc by the Golden Eagles, a clip of 41 percent.

For the third-consecutive game, DK Sumo IV was the Aggies' leading scorer. Sumo had 16 points to give him four-straight contests in double digits, as well. Sumo hit 7-of-16 from the field. He also dished off three assists and had a pair of steals.

Auston Chatman had a perfect afternoon shooting, finishing with 15 points versus JBU. Chatman went 4-or-4 from the floor, including 3-of-3 from three-point country, and made good on all four free throw attempts. Chatman also led the Aggies with seven rebounds.

Freshman Jalen Williams booked 14 points and dished off a team-best four assists. OPSU's fourth double-figure scorer was Quentin Fankhouser, who chipped in 11 points. Fankhouser grabbed four rebounds and Williams five caroms.
