GOODWELL, Okla. – Oklahoma Panhandle State University Head Men's Soccer Coach
Brandon Misuraca was pleased with his team's overall effort on Saturday, despite its 3-1 loss at home to Arizona Christian University. The setback dropped the Aggies to 1-1-1 on the year and the Firestorm upped its record to 1-1.
"I thought our boys gave a very good accounting of themselves," Misuraca said. "We played hard until the final whistle and that's all you can ask for. It wasn't our best game, technically speaking, but it says a lot about the potential of this team that we can have an 'off game' and still be highly competitive.
"Fair credit to ACU. They had four good scoring opportunities and took advantage of three of them."
To Misuraca's point, Panhandle State spent ample time in the opposing half, especially in the second half as the Aggies held the Firestorm scoreless. ACU tallied three first-half goals to and kept Panhandle at bay in the opening segment. The game might have had a very different complexion were it not for the fact that ACU's third goal was scored with just five seconds remaining in the half.
OPSU out-shot the Firestorm by a 12-7 margin. Each side managed six shots on goal. Aggie goalkeeper
Hugo Dutour had three saves. Panhandle also collected a 6-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
Panhandle State's lone tally of the afternoon came in the 81' when senior
Tayze Ellington converted a penalty kick that made it 3-1.
The Aggies'
Jesus Sosa led all players with three shot attempts, two directly on-goal.
Emmanuel Somule,
Aaron Augustin and Ellington each had two shots. Both of Augustin's tries were on-goal.
