Daniel Holyfield tallied a big double-double game to lead Oklahoma Panhandle State University men's basketball to a 70-68 non-conference road win at Bacone College. The Aggies led at the half, 41-37, before having to hold off a late charge by the Warriors.
The junior transfer Holyfield registered his third double-double as an Aggie – and second versus Bacone – by pouring in 15 points and snagging 15 rebounds. Holyfield hit 6-of-12 from the field. He also had three assists, a block and two steals to his credit.
Williams had a hot shooting game, going 6-of-7 from the floor, 1-for-2 from beyond the arc and 3-for-4 on the free throw line, good for a 16-point performance. Williams led all players in both assists (5) and steals (5).
Junior
DK Sumo IV was OPSU's third double-digit scorer with 13 points, thanks to a 6-for-10 shooting game. He passed off for three assists and made three steals.
Brett Williams booked eight points, while
Thomas Ellis and
Quentin Fankhouser each chipped in six points. Four points from
Auston Chatman and two from
Cameron Ray rounded out the Panhandle points.
Ellis added six rebounds and four assists.
Brett Williams and Chatman had four rebounds apiece.
The Aggies held a commanding 41-32 advantage on the glass. The OPSU squad had 46 points in the paint and converted 23 Warrior turnovers into 28 points.
A Chatman free throw with 17 seconds remaining to be played put OPSU ahead 70-64. But a made free throw – followed by a put-back basket – by Bacone with six seconds left made for anxious moments for OPSU down the stretch.
