Box Score 2 CHICKASHA, Okla. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University basketball teams both suffered setbacks on the road at the University of Science and Arts-Oklahoma. The Aggie women lost by a 79-48 decision and the men were topped 94-95, in the Sooner Athletic Conference doubleheader.
In the women's opener, OPSU was within a manageable 34-21 at halftime. However, the Drovers stormed out of the gate in the third quarter, outscoring the Aggies, 31-14, putting the game out of reach.
Senior transfer
Lowendie Laporal had her best outing as an Aggies. Laporal came off the bench to score team-leading totals of 10 points and six rebounds. She hit 4-of-7 from the floor and had one of OPSU's two blocked shots (
Nadia Hayes had the other)
Hannah Bennett added nine points, hitting both 3-of-4 attempts in both field goals and free throws. Freshman
Shay Audrain had eight points.
The Aggies bench out-scored USAO's by a 30-14 margin.
In the men's contest,
DK Sumo IV led the Aggies in scoring for the fourth-consecutive game, but it was not enough versus the Drovers. Sumo hit 6-of-14 shots – including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc - on his way to 16 points.
Freshman
Jalen Williams added 14 points, connecting on 6-of-13 field goals, 2-for-8 from three-point range.
Thomas Ellis booked nine points and five rebounds.
Auston Chatman scored seven points and was the Aggies' co-leader in with 10 rebounds, to go along with three assists and two steals. Sophomore
Quentin Fankhouser also pulled down 10 caroms.
Brett Williams and
Cameron Ray had six and five points, respectively.
The Panhandle State teams will next host rival Langston University on Thursday (Feb. 13). The Aggie women tipoff at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 7:45 p.m.
