SURPRISE, Arizona - The Oklahoma Panhandle State football team headed to Arizona for their season finale against the Ottawa Spirit. The Aggies would fall against the #15 nationally ranked Spirit 35-52.
The first half for the Aggies was highlighted by numerous strong drives that resulted in touchdowns. As in their first drive,
Jamalrian Jones rushed for 53 yards, and
Brandon Stephens rushed for 32 to give the Aggies their first touchdown of the game. The Aggie defense would also be a key piece of Aggie's play in the game as the Spirit has one of the more potent offenses in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Despite the Spirit returning an interception for a touchdown to tie the game,
Brandon Stephens would answer with a 15-yard touchdown pass to
Jalen Partida. The Spirit would answer with two more touchdowns to lead the end of the quarter 14-21. Both team' offenses' began to stall somewhat in the second quarter. Neither team could find the endzone until the last minute of the half when the Spirit scored a touchdown.
The Aggies received the kickoff to start the second half; however, the Aggies could not maintain any momentum. The Aggie defense held the Spirit out of the endzone for most of the quarter, showing their strength on third downs and special teams. The offense backed up the defensive play with two touchdowns in the quarter to soften the gap between themselves and the Spirit. They were trailing the Spirit 28-38 by the end of the third quarter.
Freshman
Brandon Stephens looked to start the game's final quarter on a good note to get an Aggie to win in Arizona. However, the offense could not find consecutive positive plays at the quarter's beginning. Yet, the Spirit would not take their foot off the gas as they would score twice before the Aggies could get one. As the clock ran out, the Aggies would fall to the number one team in the Sooner Athletic Conference 35-52.
