GOODWELL, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State women's basketball team welcomed the #6 Wayland Baptist Flying Queens to Anchor D Arena for their fifth conference game of the year. The Aggies would fall to the Queens with a final score of 83-40.
The Aggies looked to play fast and loose to get around the height advantage that the Flying Queens had in the game. Looking to score as much as they could in the paint throughout the game. However, with the Aggies' shooting struggles the Flying Queens would just take advantage of the extra rebounds. By the end of the first quarter, the Aggies would only be down 22 to 13. However, the second quarter would not be as hopeful for the Aggies. A second-quarter where the Aggies could only muster two field goals to the Queens' ten. The Queens would take a 44 to 18 lead into the half.Â
As the Aggies came back onto the court for the second half they looked to be more efficient on their shooting and more secure in their ball handling. Even so, it did not seem to be in the cards for the Aggies against the Flying Queens. As their shooting troubles continued through the second twenty minutes of play. Going 8 for 34 in the last two quarters. The Aggies would go down at the end of regulation 83-40.
The Aggies were not without signs of life against the Queens. Senior
Vanessa Gonzalez would knock down back-to-back threes for the Aggies, trying to create some momentum for the Aggies. Freshman
Briana Marquez once again saw her minutes tick upwards and she would make the most of her time. Tying Gonzalez for points in the game. Marquez would also lead the team in steals in the contest.Â
The Aggies look to create some momentum before they resume conference play next year as they head to the University of Northern Colorado Monday, December 13th for a 6 PM (MST) game in Greeley, Colorado.Â
