GOODWELL, Okla. – Oklahoma Panhandle State University's baseball team split its Tuesday doubleheader versus the University of the Southwest, winning game one 7-4 and dropping the second 2-0, to split the four-game series, as well. The Aggies are now 3-9 overall and the Mustangs 2-2.
In game one,
Blake Tucker went 5.0 innings, allowing five hits and the four earned runs. Tucker struck out three and walked one.
Austin Jacobs threw the final 2.0 innings of shutout relief to earn the save. Jacobs lowered his season earned run average to 1.08 after blanking the Mustangs.
Panhandle had five hits as a team, led by right-fielder
Payton Brown's 2-for-3 day at the plate. Brown had a pair of runs batted in for his efforts.
Chris Galvan also drove in a pair of runs. Galvan was 1-for-3 and also scored once.
Jose Santiago and
Sam Bond collected the other OPSU hits. Bond laced an RBI double and drew a pair of walks.
In game two, OPSU pitcher
Joseph Goetze and USW's Seth Olguin locked up in a classic pitcher's duel, each registering complete games. Goetze struck out seven and did not walk a batter, scattering seven hits. He was charged with two unearned runs in the third frame.
The Aggie bats could would muster just one hit versus Olguin, who struck out 10 OPSU hitters. The only hit against Olguin was a first-inning single by OPSU's
Logan Patterson.
Panhandle State will face Tabor College in a doubleheader next Saturday (12 p.m.) in Woodward, Oklahoma. The two teams will then move over to Enid, Okla., for a Sunday (1 p.m.) twinbill.
