GOODWELL, Okla. – Oklahoma Panhandle State University women's basketball team won its second-consecutive game, topping Texas Wesleyan University, 54-47, in a Sooner Athletic Conference battle at Anchor D Arena. With the victory, the Aggies (3-5, 3-5 SAC) snapped a four-game losing streak versus the Rams (1-7, 1-6 SAC).
OPSU grabbed a 16-10 lead after one quarter and held a 27-19 advantage at halftime. But TWU out-scored the Aggies in the third stanza, 19-8, to wrest a 38-35 upper hand on Panhandle. OPSU turned the tables on the Rams in the fourth, however, with a 19-9 spree that salted away the win for the host Aggies.
The contest featured four ties and a total of seven lead changes between the squads. Neither team led by more than single digits at any point in the game, with TWU enjoying a three-point advantage in the first half and the Aggies with a nine-point swell with 1:28 left in the game.
Senior
Cassia McCaskill led OPSU with 18 points, her seventh double-digit scoring game in eight outings. McCaskill was 6-of-17 from the field, including a pair of treys, and went 4-for-4 from the free throw stripe. She pulled down four rebounds and had a game-leading three steals, as well.
Tateum Jones also reached double figures, booking 11 points. Jones flirted with a triple-double, corralling eight rebounds and dishing off eight assists.
Myra McCaskill and
Naomi Rodriguez each chipped in six points. The duo had four and three rebounds, respectively.
Jo Quintero hauled in five rebounds.
Samantha Davis and
Morgan Williamson each added four points. Three from Quintero and two points by
Alie Parkhurst rounded out the OPSU point total.
Panhandle State will look to extend its win skein on Saturday (Feb. 6) when the team plays host to Southwestern Assemblies of God University. Tip-off at Anchor D Arena is slated for 2 p.m.
