OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Oklahoma Panhandle State University softball was swept in its Sooner Athletic Conference series at Mid-America Christian University this past weekend. The Aggies (5-19, 3-3 SAC) lost its pair of doubleheaders by scores of 8-0 and 4-2 on Friday, followed by 7-0 and 9-1 scores on Saturday.
In game one, senior
Camryn Pryor collected half of the OPSU hits in the game, going 2-for-3.
Kayli Grove (1-3) and
Brissa Rivera (1-2) had Panhandle's other two hits.
Sarah Conley struck out five Lady Evangels in absorbing the loss.
In game two,
Caitley Adams ripped a two-run home run in the first inning, giving OPSU a lead which it held through the fifth frame. After tying the game, MACU tallied the deciding runs in the bottom of the sixth.
In addition to Adams' homer, OPSU got a single off the bat of
Kinzie Jones (1-3).
Rebecca Ortiz threw 5.2 innings in the losing effort, allowing seven hits and striking out six.
In Saturday's first game, the top three batters of the lineup – Grove, Rivera and Pryor – had three of Panhandle State's four hits. Jones, batting sixth, had a double. Conley took the loss after 4.1 innings of work.
In the series finale, singles by Pryor (1-3) and Jones (1-2) accounted for the Aggie offense. OPSU pushed across an unearned run in the top of the sixth for its lone score. Ortiz was the pitcher of record, allowing seven hits and striking out one.
OPSU will play a non-conference four-game series at Bacone College on Saturday and Sunday (March 27-28).
