ALVA, Okla. – Oklahoma Panhandle State University Baseball took a brief respite from its league schedule, playing at NCAA Division II foe Northwestern Oklahoma State University. The Aggies (9-21) suffered a narrow 4-3 loss at Myers Stadium.
The Rangers (11-8) got to Panhandle State starter
Austin Jacobs for a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning and it looked like the Aggies may be in for a long day. However, Jacobs rose to the challenge and kept NWOSU silent for the next three frames, retiring the hosts in order in the third.
In the top of the fifth, Jacobs got some runs from his team, taking a 3-2 lead.
Chris Galvan and
Zack Madrigal both walked and both eventually scored on a Rangers throwing error.
Lane Field had a one-out RBI single to give OPSU the upper hand.
Unfortunately for Panhandle State, NWOSU added two more runs in their half of the fifth to chase Jacobs and wrest the lead on the scoreboard.
Joseph Goetze came on to shut down the Rangers the rest of the way. Goetze went 3.1 innings and allowed just one hit. Goetze and Jacobs each struck out five NWOSU batters.
Jose Santiago had the big bat for OPSU, going 3-for-3 with a double. Santiago also was hit by a pitch.
Mekhi Edwards (2-5) and
Ethan Hunt both had multi-hit games, as well, for Panhandle State.
