AMARILLO, Tx- Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) Aggies fell to Our Lady of the Lake (OLLU) Saints in game three of a two-day series. The non-conference series at Hodgetown Stadium doubled as a Panhandle Alumni event with a private suite, free food and drinks, and free admission to three action packed games. President, Dr. Tim Faltyn, threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Game 3 started off scoreless for the first two innings; it was the battle of the pitchers & defense. Each team only possessed one hit until the top of the 3
rd inning, with OLLU able to get on the scoreboard. OLLU produced a 2 run score, following the bottom of the fourth, the Aggies were able to get 1 run.
In the sixth inning, both teams brought runners across the home plate. The top of the sixth inning we saw OLLU bring in 5 runs. The Aggies defense stepped up and were able to halt the Saints momentum, leaving 2-runners on base. At the bottom of the inning, the Aggies put together a great series. It started off with
Markus Bracey hitting a single to shallow left, getting him on base. Next up to bat,
Ethan Hunt, with a 2-run homer, over the center field fence on a 1-0 count.
Aggies taking charge at the bottom of the seventh inning with 4 runs to tie the game. In the inning for the Aggies,
Logan Patterson started it off with a single to shallow center, followed another single by
Luis Dermas. OLLU chose to walk Jonathon Applebury, loading bases for the Aggies. On deck was
Mekhi Edwards and on a 3-2 count, hits a grand slam over the right field fence. Edwards, bringing in his teammates and, tying the ball game 7-7.
Unfortunately, Aggies were not able to stop the Saints, as they brought in 4 more runs in the next two innings. The Aggies would leave bases loaded in bottom of the eighth to remain scoreless the remainder of the game.
Lane Field (Junior, infielder) had a standout weekend for the Aggies, batting an impressive 0.692 on the weekend and producing 2 home runs, and 9 RBIs.
Mekhi Edwards (Senior, outfielder), was strong at the plate for the Aggies, producing 1 home run and a total of 6 RBIs on the weekend.
Ethan Hunt (Junior, Outfielder) and
Markus Bracey (Senior, pitcher) respectively each had home runs for the Aggies and consistent at bats.
Austin Jacobs (Senior) and
Joseph Goetze (5
th year Senior) were both stand out pitchers for the Aggies this weekend.
The Aggies will be back in action, at home, on April 30
th at 1 pm. The Aggies will take on the Texas Wesleyan Rams in a double header on April 30
th. And, to complete the series, one game on May 1
st at 12 pm.
