GOODWELL, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies welcomed the Texas Wesleyan University Rams to their home court for a volleyball match. The Rams make their way to Anchor D. Arena, which is currently ranked no. 24 in the country and holds the position of second place in the Sooner Athletic Conference. The Aggies entered the match with some momentum after claiming victory over the University of Science and Arts the previous weekend.
The Rams started the game on a record pace with the offense, but the Aggies were quick to respond with their own attacks. The first two sets featured back-to-back points, lengthy rallies, and aggressive attacks across the net from both players. Unfortunately for the Aggies, the Rams were able to defeat them in three sets without dropping a single game.
Respectively
Lesly Galarza and
Remi Vargas, who are both setters for the Aggies, contributed 13 assists to the offense, for the Aggies. Seniors
Essence West and
Rebecca Candido were the driving forces behind the offensive attack. In the match against the Rams, West finished with eight kills, while Candido finished with six kills and hit.200.
Ava Newby, a freshman who attacks from the right side, finished the night with five kills and a.273 hitting percentage.
During the defensive phase of the game, middle blockers
Ebony Dykes and
Laren Baldowsky were in charge of leading the defense. Both Dykes and Baldowsky contributed to the defense by making one solo block and three assist blocks. As well as the Aggies racked up 40 digs between the whole team.
Gracie Soza with 10 digs and
Ashley Sanchez with nine digs.
The Aggies are scheduled to play their next game tomorrow, October 15th, at 1pm in Anchor D. Arena. Their opponent will be the Lions from Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU), who are currently ranked first in Sooner Athletic Conference and no. 8th in the nation.
