SILOAM SPRINGS, AR – The Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggie volleyball team concluded the weekend with a match against John Brown University Eagles. Currently, the Eagles are ranked third (13-3) and the Aggies (8-7) are ranked sixth in the Sooner Athletic Conference. The last match up the Eagles beat the Aggies in five sets in Goodwell, Ok.
The Eagles defeated the Aggies in three closely contested sets by scores of 25-22, 25-20, and 25-22. The Aggies had 12 kills to the Eagles' 18 in the first set. The Aggies matched the Eagles with 15 kills in the second set. And in the final set, the Eagles had 19 kills compared to the Aggies' 8.
Julie Allen, the head coach, stated, "John Brown is a very well-trained team." I am impressed with the Aggies' commitment to the game plan and their ability to make minor adjustments during the game to halt the Eagles. Every time the Aggies take the court, they strengthen as a team."
There were over 18 tied scores and 11 lead changes during the match, making it a very captivating battle. Each team engaged in lengthy rallies, pushing the opposition.
Gracie Soza, the libero for the Aggies, led the defense with 20 digs and four service aces.
Remi Vargas and
Lesly Galarza tied for second with 9 digs each.
Essence West had 8 digs and
Ashley Sanchez had 7 digs.
Ebony Dykes held the block for the Aggies with three block assists, while Joelle LaForce had two.
Offensively,
Ava Newby led the Aggies. She had 7 kills hitting . 217. And, her teammates West had 6 kills and Angela Young with 6 kills each.
Bryanna Rosario added 5 kills for the Aggies. The Aggies clipped . 148 to the Eagles . 250.
The Aggies will host Langston University on October 28 at 6:00 pm and Central Christian on October 29 at 1:00 pm, which is senior day.
