OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggie Volleyball season has come to an end. As Mid-American Christian University (MACU), Evangels hosted the Aggies tonight at 7:30 pm for the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) quarterfinals. The Evangels won in three straight sets, 25-12, 25-22, 27-25.
The Gaulke Activity Center, MACU's venue, was packed tonight. It was a great crowd with supporters for both teams. The Evangels and Aggies are coming into the match tied for one win a piece against each other in the season. In addition, the Aggies and Evangels tied for fourth place in the SAC conference.
The Evangels started on fire as the Aggies stumbled in the first set, with a season-low of only seven kills to the Evangels' 12. But the first set did not stop the Aggies from fighting. The Aggies quickly made some in-game adjustments, which slowed down the Evangels into the third set. After that, however, the Aggies gained more confidence in each set with more kills, better hitting percentage, more digs, and blocks.
Junior
Angela Youngs had ten kills on 30 attempts, hitting .233, and had three block assists. Senior
Essence West was one kill shy of reaching another double-double. West had nine kills, hitting .333, and a team-high 17 digs.
Senior
Lesly Galarza had a double-double with 14 set assists and 16 digs. She also added two service aces.
Remi Vargas, a junior setter, had 14 set assists and eight digs. And junior
Gracie Soza added 12 digs and one ace to the match for the Aggies.
Head Coach
Julie Allen stated, "I am very proud of our Aggies. They fought hard tonight against a very talented MACU. We did a good job addressing changes and adjusting, which halted the Evangels. We are thankful for our seniors and look forward to continued growth."
The Aggies ended the season tied fourth with Mid-American Christian University with a 20-11 overall record.
