ALLEN, TX- The Oklahoma Panhandle State softball team looks to recover from an 0-2 start to their NAIA Winter Invitational games. On day two the Aggies looked to take on the McPherson College Bulldogs. With an impressive showing from seniors Grove and Jones the Aggies battle out a 6-8 win over the Bulldogs.
Kenley Yocom (2-1) would start the Aggies. However, it would be short-lived. Yocom was only two-thirds of an inning before being pulled from the game. The Aggies would turn to freshman
Rylin Baker (1-0) to make the third appearance of the season. For the Aggies, Baker would be lights out for four and third innings. They were shutting down the Bulldog offense to only two hits in that span.
Isabel Ray and
Sarah Conley would close out the game for the Aggies after Baker's exit.
An aggressive offense was needed to combat the Bulldogs early in the game. The Bulldogs would put up an early crooked number in the first inning. The Aggies would be up to the task as they would bounce back with a couple of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Two highlight performances from seniors
Kayli Grove and
Kinzie Jones as they combined for half of the Aggie hits on the day.
The McPherson Bulldogs and the Panhandle State Aggies come into this matchup having split their lifetime series two games to two. The Bulldogs looked to run away with the game by scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Nevertheless, the Aggies would not be daunted by the number on the scoreboard. The bats would go off in the first three innings of the game as the Aggies would tie the game at four apiece.
The Aggies would pull away and not look back in the bottom half of the fourth inning scoring three runs started by a single from freshman
Joey Fowler. The Bulldogs would try to make a late push for the lead in the top of the seventh but the Aggie bullpen was too much for them to overcome. The Aggies would win with a final score of 6-8.
The Aggies return to action tomorrow at 10 AM against the Tabor Bluejays.
