Box Score 2 CHICKASHA, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies (10-3) took the field against the McPherson College Bulldogs (2-5) and the #6 Columbia College (MO.)(5-4) Cougars on their last day in Chickasha. The Aggies would be run-ruled and shut out in six innings against the Bulldogs.
The Aggies would have their script flipped on them on the second day of the tournament. As a team that is more offensive-minded, the bats did not get the memo in game one against the Bulldogs. The Aggies managed only three hits in the contest.
Panhandle State comes into the game against the Bulldogs after having defeated the same team last week in Texas 6-8. A game that saw highlight performances from Baker, Grove, and Jones. However, the Aggies would not perform to their usual standard in their second meeting with the Bulldogs.
Looking to avoid going even on the weekend the Aggies set their sights on the number six nationally ranked Columbia College (MO.) Cougars. A slow burn of a game that saw some late-game theatrics from the Cougars. However, pitcher
Sarah Conley would shut down the Cougar offense whenever they threatened. Pitching around extra-base hits, errors, and walks to lead the Aggies to a win.
Game 1
The Aggies came into the second day of their tournament after numerous postponements of their previous games. After sweeping the first day of the tournament they were poised to make a clean getaway in the tournament with two more wins on day two However, the McPherson Bulldogs had other plans. The Bulldog pitchers kept the Aggies to single-digit hits as they shut them out in the game.
Freshman pitcher
Isabel Ray )1-1) would start the game against the Bulldogs, however, her appearance would be short-lived. Only making it through one and a third innings before giving the ball to Baker. Ray surrendered two earned runs on six hits in her outing.
Baker would make her way to the mound in the second inning of the game. Working through the meat of the Bulldog offense. Pitching the majority of the game for the Aggies before making way for
Kenley Yocom who would close out the game for the Aggies.
The Aggies were struggling at the plate against the Bulldogs. Just not finding open space on the field and getting runners on. Totaling only four baserunners in the game. Never manifesting enough momentum to overtake an early Bulldog lead.
Haley Saur,
Kinzie Jones, and
Joey Fowler would get the only hits of the day for the Aggies. Jones would also be the only one to see the basepaths twice.
The Aggies head back on the field for the second matchup of the day against the #6 Columbia College (MO.) Cougars.
Game 2
The Aggies come into the game against the Cougars after having been defeated by the team last weekend to a score of 0-5.
Sarah Conley would designate the start the first time around, going six innings. Allowing five earned runs with eight strikeouts.
Conley would make her seventh appearance and the sixth start of the season. Pitching her second consecutive complete game and finishing with four strikeouts and only two earned runs.
The Aggies played solid around the field in their 3-2 win over the Cougars. Getting out to a three-to-nothing lead in the fifth. No Aggie would record a multi-hit game;
Abby Jordan would have a two-RBI game. Giving her team a much-needed lead.
Kinzie Jones,
Kaitlyn Lord, and
Tatum Trester would belt a double in the contest to keep the momentum on the side of the Aggies.
The Aggies are off to a red hot start on the season. Not only do they lead the Sooner Athletic Conference in batting average but also hits and home runs through their first twelve games of the season. Aggie softball returns to action, after having their Kansas Wesleyan games canceled, in Chickasha on February 25th. Opening their conference slate against the number three nationally ranked USAO Drovers.
