GOODWELL, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) Women's Basketball continued their home court conference this evening, hosting Oklahoma State University (OCU). On Saturday, the Aggies were coming off a tough home loss to John Brown University and were looking to rock the Anchor D with a vital conference win. However, OCU is currently ranked 6th in the Sooner Athletic Conference and is poised to be one of the toughest teams to face.
The Stars were off fast and quickly outscored the Aggies 23-6 in the first quarter. However, Coach Esparza and the Aggies would soon settle into a rhythm and begin to move in. The Aggies went into the locker room down by 16, but they would emerge with a robust playbook for both courts ends. The third quarter would show OPSU outscore OCU 27-11. The Aggies all but shut down the Stars in the second half and dominated defensively.
This evening, the Aggies had 3 score double digits, led by
Cassia McCaskill with 24,
Bianca Camello with 21, and
Tateum Jones with 15. McCaskill also had a huge night with 17 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks. The Aggies were nearly 42% from the field and an impressive 85% from the free-throw line on the night. Overall, the Aggies executed the complete game plan and put together enough runs to upset the Stars 71-62.
Head Coach
Victor Esparza stated, "it was a great team win tonight for the Aggies. We have continued to believe in ourselves and worked hard each day in the gym. And, tonight, it paid off. We fought for every ball, executed the game plan, and made significant in-game adjustments to the Stars. I am proud of the team.
This win moves the Aggies to 4-14 in conference play and 6-14 overall. The Aggies will take the road this week to face the University of Science and Arts (USAO) and Texas Wesleyan University, then return to the Anchor D Arena to finish their regular season play.
