Aggie Bats Unload Against Bacone

AMARILLO, Texas, - Panhandle State baseball returned to Hodgetown stadium to take on Bacone College. Coming out of day one with two wins against the Warriors.

The strong Panhandle State offense seen in Tuesday's game against Southern Nazarene continued in the first two games against the Warriors. The Aggie hitters lit up the Warrior pitchers for twenty-five hits, and twenty-eight hits on the day.

After a tough loss on Tuesday, the Aggies come into their first game of the day looking to establish themselves early.  Despite it taking a while for the Aggies to find the scoreboard, once they did they would never look back. Taking advantage of bad pitches to take hold of the lead and not let go.

The Aggies came out in game two with the intent to do damage. Doing so by scoring in all but the first inning. A game of season-best for the Aggies as they complete the day one sweep of the Bacone Warriors 6-1 and 22-4.

Game 1

Aggie baseball looks to gain some confidence against non-conference Bacone College before heading back into conference play next weekend. A strong outing from the starting pitcher accompanied by an effective offense lifted the Aggies past the Warriors. A complete game for the Aggies that highlighted their high ceiling.

RHP Austin Jacobs (3-2) would designate the start for the Aggies. Throwing his second complete game of the year. A dominant outing for the senior as he only allowed a single run on two hits, while also striking out eight.

As conference play gets underway the Aggies reset their foundation as on offense in game one. By putting the ball in play and forcing their opponent to make plays the Aggies give themselves the best chance to win. Minimizing strikeouts has also been a key component of this new foundation. Game one only saw two Aggie strikeouts to their ten hits.

Jonathan Applebury and Hunter Hutchinson highlighted the game one win over the Warriors. Applebury would launch his fourth home run of the year in the fifth innings to shift the momentum in the Aggies' favor. Hutchinson led the team in hits in the game (3) as well as runs scored (3).

Game 2

The Aggies looked to compound their game one performance in game two. Doing so with ease as they would roll over the Bacone Warriors. Falling just short of numerous program records in their 23-4 win.

Sophomore LHP Colton Anderson (2-2) got the nod for game two against Bacone College. Despite a slow start to his outing, Anderson would have his confidence boosted by the red hot Aggie hitters. Anderson would throw his first complete game of the season. Striking out eight in seven innings of work.

The Aggies looked to have turned over a leaf in game two. An offense that would erupt for a season-high 17 RBIs and 23 runs. Capped off by a solo home run from shortstop Manrique Mora in the second inning. With the momentum and the elements in their favor, the Aggies would take over the game with ease. Belting three more home runs in the game off the bats of seniors Ethan Hunt (1) and Jonathan Applebury (2). Eight of the nine Aggie Starters would notch a hit in game two but all nine would at least reach base.

After a disappointing game one, where he would lose his hit and on-base streak, senior outfielder Ethan Hunt came back in game two with a vengeance. Going three for five at the plate and tying the program record for single-game RBIs with seven. Hunt has been a force for this Aggie team that has proven himself to be a leader by example.

Panhandle State Baseball returns to Hodgetown against the Bacone Warriors Sunday, March 13th at Noon.
