Aggies Stun #2 OCU

GOODWELL, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies hosted the #2 Oklahoma City Stars softball team for the first home doubleheader of the season. The Aggies split the day with the Stars. Ending the Stars' 18-game win streak and handing them their first loss of the year.

The Aggies came out in game one ready to set the tone with an early lead. However, the Stars would prove more consistent at the plate in the Aggies' loss. The Stars would capitalize on Aggie errors to take the lead and control of the game.

Game two of the day saw a much more focused Aggie team. An Aggie offense that nearly doubled their hits from game one. A strong start and complete game from Sarah Conley would lift the Aggies over the Stars in game two 10-6.

Game 1

A David and Goliath series for the Aggies as they take on the Oklahoma City Stars. The Stars came in undefeated on the season.  The Aggies needed to perform at their best in all three aspects of the game to come out with the win. However, the defense of the Aggies would struggle in the loss. Allowing the Stars to capitalize with unearned runs to defeat the Aggies 9-5.

Kenley Yocom earned her third loss of the season. Yocom would strike out three in her five and a third innings of work before heading to the bench as Rylin Baker would enter the pitching circle.

Baker would finish the game for the Aggies. Going one and two-thirds innings and allowing no runs on three hits.

The Aggie bats would need to get out to a good start to compete against the Stars. Doing just that with an RBI double off the bat of senior Kinzie Jones to score Brielee Daniell. The Stars would answer with three runs of their own in the top of the third. The Aggies would not trail for long as catcher Kaitlyn Lord recorded three RBIs in the bottom half of the inning to put the Aggies back into the lead.

Not much more would go right for the Aggies as the Stars would go on to score five unanswered runs in the rest of the game. Despite the games' outcome, the Aggies fought till the end. Phylzan "YaYa" Jones, Brielee Daniell, and Tatum Trester would all record two hits in the game. Lord would also lead the team with three RBIs.

Game 2

The Aggies came into game two of the doubleheader building off the success they had had in game one. By getting on base, forcing mistakes, and keeping their foot on the gas, the Aggies came out with a 10-6 win of the #2 ranked OCU Stars.

Aggie ace Sarah Conley notched the win in her eighth complete game of the season. An exceptional start from the junior as she struck out six in seven innings of work. Working around a late-game push from the Stars and sending them packing.

Unlike in game one, the Aggies would not be the first to score in the contest. The Stars would throw up a quick crooked number on the Aggies in the top of the first. The Aggies would be unable to answer said runs in their half of the inning. Putting a damper on the Aggie dugout. Kaitlyn Lord would have other plans for the Aggies.

Lord would cap off the Aggies' eight-run second inning with a single. The inning saw thirteen Aggie hitters and seven hits. Second baseman Haley Saur would bring around two more Aggie runners in the game to give the Aggies a 10-3 lead going into the last two innings. The Stars, however, would not go down without a fight as they would begin to knock around Conley for extra-base hits. Yet, the Aggie pitcher and her defense would hold strong and defeat the Oklahoma City Stars.

Panhandle State softball hosts the Mid-America Christian Evangels on March 18th and 19th for their third set of conference games of the season. Friday first pitch at 12 PM.
