Aggies Sweep Day One against MACU

GOODWELL, Okla. - Panhandle State softball swept day one in the two-day series against the Mid-America Christian Evangels. An all-around effort for the Aggies as they kept the Evangels on their back foot in both games.

Game one of the day saw the Aggies come out ready to do some damage after defeating the number two team in the nation on Tuesday. Lighting up the Evangels pitching staff for eleven hits. Six of those eleven would be extra-base hits.

The last game of the day would see the Aggies double down at the plate. Totaling fourteen hits in game two. Making it their third straight game with double-digit hits. The Aggie bullpen would also make some noise in game two allowing only four hits in five innings of work.

Game 1

For their third conference series of the season, the Aggies face off against the Mid-America Christian Evangels. After being swept by the Evangels in 2021 the Aggies were ready to make up for their past struggles.

Sarah Conley would be lights out in her ninth complete game of the season. Earning her sixth victory of the year as she struck out six in her seven innings of work.

Conley would not be the only Aggie to put on a highlight performance in the game. Sophomore Kenzie Monroe would get the Aggies on the board first with an RBI double in the bottom of the second. Monroe and Trester would also cap off a seven-run 3rd for the Aggies. Each with their own two-run home run.

As Conley kept the Evangels off the basepaths the Aggie hitters couldn't stay off them. As every Aggie starter saw the base paths at least on time, while eight of the nine starters recorded a hit. Haley Saur, Kinzie Jones, and Kenzie Monroe each recorded a two-hit game one.

Game 2

After a devastating loss in game one, the Evangels seemed ready to redeem themselves in game two. Putting up a quick crooked number in the top of the first. The Aggies would respond immediately in the bottom half of the inning to retake the lead and keep it. Beating the Evangels 13-5.

Sophomore Kenley Yocom would designate the start for the Aggies. Her single inning of work would not factor into the decision for the Aggies. Yocom would be knocked around early for three runs before making way for freshman Rylin Baker in the second.

Baker would earn her fifth win of the season as she still has not received a loss. Throwing four strong innings for the Aggies and only allowed a single earned run and four hits. Isabel Ray would come into the game in the seventh to finish off the Evangels.

The Aggies currently boast a top-five offense in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Game two showed why. The first inning for the Aggies saw six hits for seven runs. Kinzie Jones would start the inning off with a ground-rule double over the centerfield fence. Followed by four consecutive Aggie hits.

Senior Kayli Grove would wake the Aggie bats up after a brief hiatus with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth. The Aggies would go on to score six in the last three innings of the game to walk-off run-rule the Mid-America Christian Evangels.

Once again every Aggie batter would find the base paths and eight of the nine would record a hit. Freshman second baseman Haley Saur would lead the way for the Aggies with three hits, three RBIs, and a run scored. Catcher Kaitlyn Lord would not be far behind Saur with a two-for-four performance with three RBIs, and two runs scored. Kenzie Monroe would have a day Against the Evangels. Going a perfect two for two with two walks in game two.

Oklahoma Panhandle State softball returns to Jim Quimby Field Sunday, March 20th with first pitch at 1 PM.
