Panhandle State Softball Sweeps Evangels

GOODWELL, Okla. - Panhandle State softball completed the four-game sweep of the MACU Evangels. Winning game one 6-4 and game two 8-0.

Game three of the series proved to be much closer than the first two between the Aggies and the Evangels. The Aggies looked to secure the series win as the Evangels attempted to salvage the series. Despite their best efforts, the Evangels would be put on the back foot by the Aggie offense. The Aggies would capitalize on Evangel errors to take the win.

Game four would not be as friendly to the Evangels. The Aggies would shut out the Evangels in their five-inning run-rule 8-0. Panhandle State made good use of the strong win to launch two home runs in the game. Capping off the weekend out, scoring the Evangels. 37 to 12.

Game 1

With a series win right in front of them, the Aggies came out in game three with a clear intent on winning. Stringing together multiple hits throughout the game allowed them to do just that. Coupled with effective pitching, the Aggies would secure the series victory in game three 6-4.

Sarah Conely would notch the win for the Aggies. Throwing her second complete game in as many days for her seventh win of the season. Conely would pitch around numerous base runners to get the Aggies out of innings and back up on the scoreboard. Striking out eight Evangels in her seven innings of work.

As Conley kept the Evangels off the scoreboard it was up to the offense to get them on it. With a slow start to the game, the Aggies would need a jumpstart to get things going. Catcher Kaitlyn Lord would be that jumpstart as she would bring around the first Aggie run in the bottom of the third.

Refusing to trail for much longer the Aggies would put a four-spot in the bottom of the fourth. Five consecutive baserunners for the Aggies allowed them to take a five to four lead heading into the sixth. As the game came down to the wire, center fielder Brielee Daniell would score some insurance for the Aggies in the bottom of the fifth.

A textbook day for the Aggie offense as Kaitlyn Lord, Tatum Trester, and Kinzie Jones would record at least two hits each against the Evangels. Lord would lead the team with two RBI with Jones and Daniell right behind her with one RBI apiece.

Game 2

The series finale would come out all Aggies. By scoring in three of their five innings at the plate, the Aggies would effectively kill any chances of the Evangels mounting a comeback. A red-hot Aggie offense that saw every starter reach base in the game.

Kenley Yocom came into game four with a chip on her shoulder after only making it through one inning in game two. Throwing her second complete-game shutout of the year. Through five innings of work, Yocom would only allow four hits in the game while striking out three.

The Aggie offense would be just as effective as their starting pitcher., by starting the game with a five-run first. Highlighted by six hits and two two-RBI home runs for Kayli Grove and Phylzan "Yaya" Jones. Refusing to go on cruise control the Aggies would put up three more runs in the contest.

Every Aggie would record a hit in the series finale and seven of the nine would score a run. Trester would be perfect from the plate, going two for two with an RBI. Saur would also total two hits as well in the game. Grove and Jones lead the team with two RBIs each.

Oklahoma Panhandle State softball will take a break from conference play as they welcome the Bacone College Warriors next weekend March 26th and 27th. The Aggies will throw out the first pitch Saturday, March 26th at 12 PM.
